Bubble gum is made by blending and pressing a gum base together with sugar, glucose syrup, flavorings, and other ingredients. It’s not only delicious but also fun to chew, making it a favorite among people of all ages. We’ve all eaten bubble gum at some point, but do you know how a single piece of bubble gum is actually made and ends up on our shelves? What specific materials and equipment are involved in the process? Today, this article will take an in-depth look at the industrial production process of bubble gum, explaining the core equipment required for each step and helping you understand the application logic behind confectionery processing machinery. (Note that bubble gum of different shapes has slightly different production processes; this article uses spherical bubble gum production as an example.)

The Production Process of Bubble Gum

1.Raw Material Preparation

The core raw materials for bubble gum are gum base, glucose syrup, white sugar, glycerin, and flavorings. Before production, these ingredients need to be proportioned according to the type of bubble gum to be produced.

2.Mixing

The mixing step is key to bubble gum production, as it determines the quality of the gum dough. Specialized mixing equipment is required. After proportioning, the ingredients are sequentially added to the mixer and mixed until uniform, pliable, and free of lumps, meeting the standard before discharging.

3.Extrusion and Forming

The mixed gum dough is then transformed into predetermined shapes using extrusion and forming equipment. The dough is fed into an extruder to form a continuous rope, then sent to a forming machine to be pressed into continuous spherical, dinosaur-egg, pear, or other shapes.

4.Cooling and Setting

The formed gum pieces enter a cooling tunnel, where they are evenly cooled to achieve a moderate softness and hardness without sticking.

5.Coating

The cooled spherical gum pieces enter a coating machine, where they are repeatedly sprayed with coating syrup and dried layer by layer. This continues until the surface forms a uniform-thickness, consistent-color coating. After coating, the gum balls undergo a 24-hour aging process, then move to a polishing step to make the surface shiny and plump, further preventing sticking and extending shelf life.

6.Packaging and Quality Inspection

After coating, the bubble gum is packaged and undergoes quality inspection throughout the process.

Having understood the complete production process of a spherical bubble gum, what professional equipment supports each step? Next, we continue the breakdown.

1.Crusher

As a pre-production raw material preparation step, the crusher’s main function is to crush granular sugar into fine sugar powder, providing the basic sugar ingredient for subsequent batching and mixing.

2.Oven

The oven is essential in gum base candy production, primarily used to soften the gum base.

3.Mixer

After preheating and softening, the gum base is mixed with glucose syrup, flavorings, and other ingredients in the mixer.

4.Extruder

The extruder mainly consists of a frame and guard, transmission box and components, extrusion chamber components, temperature control circulation system, and electrical system. Depending on the candy structure (single-color/two-color) and output, different extrusion chambers (single-chamber/dual-chamber) can be selected.

5.Gum Rope Conveyor Belt

The conveyor belt for the gum rope serves a dual function in bubble gum production: it ensures continuous and stable transport after extrusion while simultaneously performing initial cooling and setting of the rope, laying the foundation for subsequent processing.

6.Forming Machine

The forming machine can change candy shapes freely. Depending on the final shape of the bubble gum (stick, ball, etc.), different forming equipment is needed to achieve precise shaping of the gum dough.

7.Cooling Shaker

There are several types of cooling equipment, but the cooling shaker is more suitable for spherical bubble gum production. Its unique vibration and oscillating motion design effectively promotes uniform movement of the gum balls, prevents deformation, and ensures stable final product shape.

8.Coating Machine

The coating machine mainly consists of a main unit and a fan. Its function is to evenly coat the formed bubble gum balls with syrup, giving them a smooth, uniformly colored coating. A stable coating machine is key to determining the final appearance of bubble gum.

Above is the complete industrial production process and core equipment analysis for spherical bubble gum. From raw material handling to final product, every step relies on equipment support. For food processing enterprises, choosing the right production equipment is the core of producing high-quality bubble gum.
